WINDSHIELD AND/OR REAR WINDOW SEALS
Determine whether the outer corners of the glass are squared angles or
rounded. If rounded on all four corners, check to see if the profile (cross-section) of
rubber is the same on all four sides. If it is, send us a slice of the rubber (complete
cross-section) and a paper pattern of the outline of the glass. If we have the correct
extrusion die in our inventory, we can extrude a length of rubber that matches your
sample, cut a wood pattern to match your paper tracing, place the rubber on the wood, and
cure the rubber to the correct shape.
If your rubber has upper rounded corners and square corners at the base, send us a
cross-section and a paper pattern of the glass. Again, if we have the correct extrusion
die, we can extrude a length of rubber, cut a wood pattern to match your paper tracing,
place the rubber on the wood, and cure the upper two sides. We also make a length of
rubber for the base separately and cure it. When you receive the shipment all you need do
is place the upper rubber on the glass, carefully mark the lower corner angles, do the
same with the base rubber, cut the correct lower corner angles, and bond the corners
together with a good cyanoacrylate glue such as Loctite 406 (a slower curing type of Crazy
Glue). If you think this will be too difficult, consult an auto glass shop.
If the seal has square corners on all four sides of the glass, we can make tooling and
extrude four lengths of rubber based upon your cross-section sample. When you receive the
rubber you can miter them and glue them, or consult a glass shop as mentioned previously.
Note: Some sixties and later vehicles have more than one extrusion shape
(cross-section) of rubber on the four sides of the glass. In most cases, if we or other
suppliers dont make the rubber, it is likely not available. Try checking through
your car club publication, or contact owners of the same type car.
